M.A.S.K. (1985 – 1986)

Sebagai seorang anak di tahun 80’an, salah satu acara TV favorit saya waktu itu adalah serial animasi M.A.S.K., yang diproduksi oleh Kenner dan disiarkan selama dua musim dari tahun 1985 hingga 1986.

Artikel ini pertama kali ditulis pada tanggal 30 April 2010 di Tumblr saya. Berita kemenangan 1 milyar US$ pengacara-pengacara Apple Inc atas Samsung beberapa hari lalu membuat saya ingin kembali menerbitkan artikel ini, dengan sedikit penambahan (ditulis dalam font style italic).

Artikel ini adalah kisah patah hati.

Kisah kekecewaan karena sesuatu yang dulu begitu dikagumi, kini menjadi sesuatu yang dahulu dijauhi. Kisah sedih karena sesuatu yang dulu adalah impian romantis, kini menjadi sebuah mimpu buruk kapitalisme. Sesuatu yang dulu melambangkan kebebasan, pemberontakan, kini telah menjadi perlambang kekuasaan dan anti-kebebasan itu sendiri. Marah, karena uang dan kekuatan memang benar dapat merubah orang dan organisasi.

Saya ingat di awal 90’an, masih berseragam SMP, melihat sebuah iklan di majalah. Sebuah peristiwa yang bisa jadi, adalah salah satu penentu jalan hidup saya. Sebuah mesin yang sangat memesona, begitu indah, dan membawa sejuta janji akan pengalaman indah. Sebuah komputer. Sebuah Apple.

But did you know, in the medical world, the species in which the scientists are hoping to be the possible source of organ transplantations for human bodies are from the genus Sus, or in English, the pigs. And for years, scientists had also used pig carcasses on experiments to simulate certain effects on human bodies.

Well my point in this article is simple, dua organisasi ini dibalik kegiatan dan motif mereka yang berbeda 180 derajat, sebenernya adalah dua wajah dari satu koin yang sama.

My Own Sonic Time Machine

Lately I was kinda bored with my playlists. So I decided to try something new, creating a playlist by cramming as many songs as possible with a similar theme into it, and the theme would be similar year of release.

I started with the year 1986. Why? Why the heck not… pfft..

it was a decade of real and great musicians

Soon after I listened to this 1986 collection of songs, I realized that my mind was taken into a different era. An era where big hair and neon jackets reigned supreme. It felt as if the calendar would transformed into a 1986 version, and that we’re still watching TVRI, traffic jam is the least of our problem, and that the USSR is still USA’s arch-enemy.

Needless to say, now I know what to do if I want to emulate past experiences in my head.
